The Xavante hunt for food and plant crops. Towards the end of a rainy season, a man cuts down 2 or 3 trees and leaves them to dry. He sets the trees on fire and the ashes add mineral nutrients to the soil. They plant crops that have minimal tending such as corn, beans and pumpkins.
